Mono Lake - Natural Colorful Lake In World
Mono Lake adalah sebuah danau besar, garam dangkal di Mono County, California,yang dibentuk setidaknya 760.000 tahun yang lalu sebagai sebuah danau terminal dibaskom yang tidak memiliki outlet ke laut. Karena tidak memiliki outlet, garam terlarut membuat danau yang sangat alkali dan salty. danau gurun memiliki ekosistem yang luar biasa produktif berdasarkan udang air asin yang berkembang di perairan, dan menyediakan habitat bersarang penting bagi dua juta burung migrasi tahunan yang makan udang . Danau Mono ini juga terkenal karena mengandung GFAJ-1, batangberbentuk extremophile bakteri yang mungkin mampu menggabungkan unsur arsenik biasanya beracun ke dalam biokimia nya.
